I've had the safe for about a year and only recently locked it for the first time only to learn that the latch to the lock sticks and now I have all my most vital papers in a box that cannot be opened. Luckily we haven't needed to test its firesafe or waterproof properties, so I can't speak to that, but the box is impossible to open (the latch sticks). I've tried the "tips" listed on the web (use your knee to apply pressure, etc.) and still I can't get it to open. It is going straight to the trash. I certainly recommend testing this out in the store before buying, because apparently it's a common problem.
