Home security is better achieved by the twin criteria of hard entry and time lapsed for exit. But, how to achieve the same can be answered if the following tips are carefully noted and followed:

Tip No.1. The home security should be like Onion and not like Eggs.

The elaboration of the above line is simple. If the burglars or criminals have to face only one defence, the defence mechanism may be compared to egg shells – if broken, the things are really  exposed. On the other hand, multiple layers which one finds in an onion, will slow him and act as a warning to wake up the householders and neighbor’s that something is amiss. Making these or other layered obstructions make the criminal’s task more hard and works as a deterrent to go ahead with their envisaged wrongful propositions. As a result, very often an unwanted visitor shall not even try to enter the so-called layered defence and leave the place alone. But, one may question what is this so called layered defence mechanism, the answer is simply having rosebushes which are thorny and are placed just on the outer side of the double locked strongly barred windows and are not simple to access.

Tip No.2. Try to act like a burglar in your own home

Spend sometime around your home and searchingly inquire within yourself what you would do to enter the property if you were a burglar? What are the vulnerable areas from which a burglar can enter the house and this can be ascertained if one puts himself in the burglar’s shoes and thinks with his perspectives. Taking care of the spots, which are usually overlooked can solve a excellent half of the problem. Looking for the loopholes makes you conscious about vulnerability of your abode to take remedial measures like half opened windows or windows have sliding glass panes or even doors which have a glass pane. These are the areas, which need attention and remedial measures immediately.

Tip No.3. The surrounding areas around the lock to be looked into

Simply putting a lock on the door does not help.  The surrounding areas of 18 to 24 inches around the lock needs to be studied duly so that a kick or two on the space surrounding the lock may result in the lock yielding and give a free access to the burglars. One must remember that a burglar will not bother about the hurt he is causing to the householder. So, the woods of the wooden part of the doorframe need to be carefully made and the door lock on the rear entrance need to be properly installed.

Tip No.4. The locks that are used must be protected for better safety.

The dreadful combination of weak locks and construction / fitting flaws,  the ones that we generally overlook, are the cracks that a burglar will gleefully utilize to break your security measures. So, look for the breaches in the door and the frame from inside out. Better locks have secondary tongue and a safety plate over the secondary tongue so that it cannot be opened easily.

Tip No.5. It is better to place multiple locks on the doorframes.

A small extra enforcement behind the doorframe is not visible from outside or inside. The burglar will certainly find the arrangement as an impregnable wall to reckon with.

Tip No.6. Try to find out alternatives to deadbolts in doors that have windows
One must first of all talk or consult with a reliable locksmith. Placing a secondary lock i.e. a floor lock, outside the reach of the windows is recommended.
